Dawley’s Sol-Duc River Campground

Dawley’s Sol-Duc River Campground

Your Hosts: Rachel & Husband Dawley

Our Story

Hello to all from Dawley's Campground! I'm Rachel and my husband is Dale, we give thanks to owning this beautiful piece of God's country to our mom's Cleona Thompson, Olive Dawley, dad's George Thompson, Newt Dawley and of course our Father.

When our parents passed, we came across these 18 acres for sale and my husband came to me and said he wanted to build a campground. Together we decided to make a place for others to come, relax, enjoy and explore the peninsula. I was born and raised in Montana by Glacier Park.

I Have done homecare for years; I worked at the hospital and have always had a passion and love for people. I found my calling for sure, running this Campground is amazing to me. I meet people from all over the place. I love to talk to everyone and make sure they have the best experience.

My husband and I really are enjoying making this magical place for others to enjoy. The added touches are right up my alley. Dale told me about a gal that was getting rid of a bunch of gnomes/figurines and yard figurines. I have had a fun time putting them around the Campground for people to enjoy. I love decorating and people, so this is absolutely an amazing fun time for me. My husband Dale works for the hospital in Port Angeles.

He is a Plant Operator/Engineer, with others he keeps the hospital running. Dale is a master mechanic, and as you would say a Jack of all trades. He would never say it, but he is amazing with all his skills. He has a passion and drive like no other, he works from sunup to sundown. He has a wonderful way with people, and his vast knowledge of this area is amazing. He can answer most questions for fun stuff to do around the Peninsula.

Dale grew up on the west end of the Peninsula in Clallam Bay, there for being very knowledgeable about the area. Our son James lives and works in Port Angeles, he comes out often and helps us with the work. James is a top hand and loves the outdoors, fishing, hiking and kayaking, so he fits here well.

James has been here from the very beginning when James, Dale and I stood out on Pavel Rd in front of the homestead that was grown over by weeds looking at nothing but thick woods and bamboo that was clear to the river.

Dale and James said Campground and I looked around and said oh my gosh where do we start lol. We bought the land on Dale's dads birthday July 8th, 2019, then the work began. We are proud to have a family ran Campground and James will take over, so it stays in the family.
